Chelsea have emerged among the front-runners to win the 2020-21 Champions League after Friday’s quarter and semi-final draws.
The Blues, who remain unbeaten since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, drew Porto in the quarter-finals in perhaps the most favourable match-up possible.
Should they prevail, a mouthwatering encounter against either Real Madrid or Liverpool awaits.

Chelsea have been almost unrecognisable since the arrival of Tuchel, and they were once again mightily impressive in their 2-0 home win against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
With victory, the Blues secured a 3-0 aggregate win over Diego Simeone’s side, who currently sit four points clear at the top of La Liga.
Despite Chelsea’s rise to prominence, they were down as the fifth favourite to win the Champions League prior to Friday’s draw, with odds of 15/2.
However, after learning of their impending fate – a tie against Porto, with Madrid or Liverpool to follow – the odds quickly slashed to 4/1, with Chelsea now the third favourites to win the competition.
Of course, Chelsea are not the only English side in the running for the Champions League, with Premier League leaders Manchester City the favourites to win the tournament at 9/4.
They have been simply sensational domestically this season, already holding a spot in April’s Carabao Cup final.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City remain the favourites to win this season’s Champions League
Reigning champions Bayern Munich cannot be ruled out, and they are second favourites at 4/1
Champions League winner odds – before the draw
- Manchester City 21/10
- Bayern Munich 3/1
- PSG 11/2
- Liverpool 13/2
- Chelsea 15/2
- Real Madrid 12/1
- Borussia Dortmund 16/1
- Porto 40/1
And the story has been no different in the Champions League, where they waltzed past Borussia Monchengladbach 4-0 on aggregate to book their spot in Friday’s draw.
City – whose main objective under Guardiola remains to win the Champions League – were drawn against Borussia Dortmund in another favourable draw.
The German giants have struggled for form domestically this season, sat fifth in the Bundesliga table.
Should City overcome their German counterparts, a jaw-dropping clash with either reigning champions Bayern Munich or last year’s finalists Paris Saint-Germain awaits.
Of course, you cannot rule out Liverpool, despite their own domestic troubles this season.
The Reds were drawn against Madrid in an intriguing encounter and, as stated, will face either Chelsea or Porto in the semi-finals should they come through the challenge.
Interestingly, the odds for Liverpool to win the Champions League also dropped following the draw, from 13/2 to 11/2.
Despite learning of their imminent Champions League opponents, both Chelsea and Manchester City now turn their attention to the FA Cup, where they play Sheffield United and Everton respectively this weekend.
However, they won’t have to wait long for the Champions League to return, with the quarter-final first-legs to take place on either April 6 or 7, with the second-legs just a week later.
The semi-finals will be played across the final week of April and the first week of May, with the final on May 29.
