Clive Tyldesley has taken a swipe at Sky Sports’ Manchester derby build-up, with the veteran commentator left thoroughly unimpressed at the broadcaster’s decision to use an ‘urban poet’.

While he currently works for CBS on Champions League matches, Tyldesley did not mince his words when it came to Sky’s coverage on Sunday.

Ahead of kick-off at Old Trafford, Sky Sports Premier League posted a tweet anticipating the hotly contested derby.

Tyldesley tweeted: ‘Anyone else that could manage to watch a big football match without an overture from an urban poet now?

Many initially thought he was tearing into Sky’s lead commentator Peter Drury before it became clear it was focused on the pre-match video. Taking aim at Sky’s social coverage of the match, the commentator did not seem enamored by the hip-hop star’s rap.

Tays, the rapper, was shown in various sites around Manchester throughout the clip online

Tays, a Manchester-based artist, is seen in the clip as the ‘urban poet’ mentioned by Tyldesley, rapping over a hip-hop beat about the famous Manchester footballing spectacle.

The artist is good friends with fellow Northern music icon, Aitch, having been pictured at the Pride of Britain Awards alongside each other earlier this month.

While Aitch is known for being a diehard Manchester United fan, the two put their rivalries aside for friendship.

In the rap, Tays mentions City’s journey from Maine Road, the home of Pep Guardiola’s club until 2003, to the Etihad Stadium, ending his rap on: ‘This City’s staying blue.’

In similar coverage, Sky Sports also posted a clip of Aitch and Marcus Rashford, with the young rapper joking that ‘Marcus is going to get me a deal at United soon!

Manchester United went on to suffer a damning 3-0 home defeat, having now lost half of their opening 10 matches of this season’s campaign.

‘This City’s staying blue,’ said Tays during the clip posted by Sky Sports Premier League

The clip showed past footage of defeats in previous seasons by Erik Ten Hag’s home side

‘It looks easy but it’s not, really it’s not,’ Guardiola said afterwards.

‘We have a lot of respect for United, for what they do, but we were at our best, especially in the second half.

‘The second goal helped us a lot. We were saying at half-time they will be more aggressive and they were, but we made two incredible two build-ups.

‘Bernardo (Silva) and Jack (Grealish) made a good action and Erling scored the second goal. That was the key point of the game.’
