Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister has taken aim at his former club Juventus after the Portuguese sealed a sensational return to Manchester United on Friday. Ronaldo left Turin in slightly unsavoury circumstances after the club made it clear that they would rather he was shifted off the wage bill this summer.

Tears of joy, screaming from the rooftops and utter jubilation were three things which were rife in the red half of Manchester after Ronaldo completed a sudden and sensational switch to Old Trafford on Friday.

The 36-year-old made his name under Sir Alex Ferguson, who signed him almost two decades ago, in a six-year spell at United earlier in his career.

The Portugal captain has gone on to enjoy an exemplary career since after spells with Real Madrid and Juventues.

Most recently, Ronaldo’s ruthless goalscoring talents could be found in Turin where he bagged 29 Serie A goals last season for Juve, an amount good enough to cruise the Golden Boot.

Having been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, however, returning boss Massimiliano Allegri was backed into a corner by Ronaldo’s wages, unable to make the moves he wanted to in the transfer market.

As a result, Ronaldo was encouraged to find another club. Initially, that looked like being Manchester City, until the tables quickly turned.

The player’s sister, Katia Aveiro, was overjoyed at the move, saying via Instagram: “Welcome home my love, welcome to the place you deserve.

“What happiness and what pride, thank you for being a great man.”

The suggestion that Ronaldo was somehow above Juve will be a kick in the teeth for the Bianconeri, who now face the daunting task of recruiting someone to replace his goal output.

DON’T MISS

Reports indicate that Everton’s Moise Kean is being lined up for a return to Turin, although his form in England would not suggest that he is the man to fire Juve back to the top.

All told, Ronaldo’s stint in Italy does not have to leave a completely sour taste, even though Juve broadly failed in their attempts to chase European silverware with the megastar by their side.

Aveiro’s message confirms that Manchester, and specifically United, always had a soft spot in Ronaldo’s heart, a feeling which is certainly reciprocated by the fans.

He was not on United’s radar at the start of the summer, but with one of the greatest of all time up front out of nowhere, there is a sudden feeling that the sky is the limit for the Red Devils this season.

It will not be an easy ride, however, with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City all starting the season in impressive form.

One of boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s next courses of action will be deciding who is surplus to requirements in attack.

Jesse Lingard and Amad Diallo seem to be two of the most likely to make way, with a player of Ronaldo’s calibre able to demand all the game time he wants.

More dauntingly for Solskjaer, he does not just have Ronaldo to keep happy, but seemingly his sister too who is not afraid to cause an upset if he does not get the treatment he deserves.
