Everton manager Marco Silva has refused to be drawn on his future following his side’s 5-2 defeat away to rivals Liverpool.

There has been much speculation regarding the possibility of Silva being sacked by Everton and that will intensify with the club having now lost their last three games.

Everton are languishing in 18th place in the Premier League having lost nine of their 15 games, but Silva was eager to point out that any comments he makes on his future are irrelevant when the decision over whether to sack him rests with the club’s board.

Speaking to Amazon Prime post match, Silva said: ‘I am not the right person to talk about this situation, different person than myself.

‘Every game I will play and it will come the same questions after the match. For sure they have to do things on the pitch but words here will change nothing.’

Liverpool established a two-goal lead against Everton courtesy of Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri before Michael Keane reduced the deficit.

There has been much speculation about Silva’s future, with Everton 18th in the Premier League

Origi then scored again for the league leaders before Sadio Mane also scored in an enthralling contest. Richarlison got a second for Everton but Liverpool found the net again, with Georginio Wijnaldum scoring late on.

Silva guided Everton to an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League last season, but matters have taken a major turn for the worse this campaign.

Everton’s next game is at home to Chelsea on Saturday but it remains to be seen whether Silva will still be in charge for that fixture.
