It’s amazing what a few wins can do.
At the start of the season Mesut Ozil was being slammed and fans thought it would take a long, long, time for Unai Emery to turn Arsenal into any sort of title challengers.
Ten straight wins later and the Gunners’ odds on being champions have been slashed – and Ozil is leading the charge.
So what’s changed?
Well former England man Trevor Steven thinks he knows.
The former Everton and Rangers winger has shed light on the changing relationship between Ozil and Arsenal.
“Ozil is meant to be the iconic figure at the club and is their highest earner,” Steven wrote in his City AM column .
“Ask anyone in German football and they’ll tell you he can do anything – but his attitude has been wrong.
“Now that seems to have changed. He appears to get it.
“He was in need of some love after his acrimonious international retirement in the summer. Arsenal have given it to him.
“Being made captain on Monday was recognition from Emery that Ozil has embraced a more collective approach.
“It’s also a smart move that gives him greater responsibility. He can’t shirk his role as a leader.”
Team spirit is high Arsenal made it 10 wins in a row as the Gunners saw off Leicester at the Emirates on Monday evening.
Ozil responded to Ben Chilwell’s deflected opener before a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang brace sealed the three points for the Gunners.
It made it seven wins out of nine in the Premier League and leaves them fourth in the table, just two points behind pace-setters Manchester City and Liverpool .
And Unai Emery’s men celebrated their perfect 10 in style in the dressing room… captured by Alex Iwobi.
In the dressing room celebrations was some suspect dancing from German defender Shkodran Mustafi.
He led the celebrations in his boxer shorts, dancing to the dulcet tones of Michael Jackson hit ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’.
Iwobi watched on in hysterics as Mustafi, still in his Arsenal shirt, shimmied across the dressing room.
Arsenal will be bidding to make it 11 wins on the trot when they take on Sporting Lisbon in Portugal in the Europa League tonight.
They return to Premier League action on Sunday at Crystal Palace before hosting Blackpool in the Carabao Cup on October 31.
