Marco Silva described Fulham’s performance as utter perfection while David Moyes blamed this defeat on West Ham using up all of their energy in the midweek win over Tottenham.
Moyes has now lost 238 games as a Premier League manager – the most in the competition’s history, level with Harry Redknapp – and this was one of his worst days.
While Moyes hid behind West Ham’s hectic schedule, Silva heaped his players with praise. ‘It was a brilliant performance from us,’ said Fulham’s boss. ‘A great one, really, no doubts about the best team on the pitch.
‘Not just because we won 5-0 but the way we performed. The players understood the plan so well. The way we can punish them, the way we can take the ball from them and control the game on the ball. We did it.
‘It looks easy but it is not easy. We expressed ourselves, to create chances, to score goals, and the way we did it was almost a perfect afternoon for us. We gave almost nothing to them.

‘We controlled well and it is not easy to control a team like West Ham with Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paqueta, Tomas Soucek arriving in the box. The players did it so, so perfect. It’s so difficult to win 1-0 or 2-1 in the Premier League. Imagine when you win with this score.’
Moyes was asked what was behind this defeat and West Ham’s manager said: ‘The carry over from the game. We used up too much energy in midweek. We weren’t able to get ourselves back. It is disappointing. But we’ve had two difficult away games this week. Three points from the two games is not a bad return.’
Complaining further about that trip to Tottenham, Moyes continued: ‘We could have easily had our game on the Wednesday, couldn’t we? And we didn’t. We had it on the Thursday.
‘I’m struggling to do it with the time. We can’t do it with the scheduling we’ve got. Lucas Paqueta’s been carrying a bit of an injury. There’s been illness in the camp.’
West Ham face Freiburg this Thursday and then Wolves on Sunday, both at the London Stadium.
