Gabriel confuses Arsenal fans after appearing to wear his socks back to front

New signing Gabriel Magalhaes had some Arsenal fans baffled as he made an impressive debut during Saturday’s 3-0 win over Fulham after he appeared to wear his socks the wrong way round.

Brazilian centre-back Gabriel scored the Gunners’ second as they put newly promoted Fulham to the sword at Craven Cottage.

The 22-year-old found the back of the net with his shoulder early on in the second half to become only the third defender to score for Arsenal on Premier League debut.

However, it wasn’t his footballing antics that Gunners supporters were discussing after the game – it was the way he wore his socks.

A picture emerged on Twitter of Gabriel’s socks showing the adidas logo instead of the club-associated cannon, like the rest of his team-mates.

A lot of people were very pretty confused, it’s fair to say, as they pointed out the misdemeanour on social media.

“Proper team effort? The team didn’t tell Gabriel about his socks being the other way round tho?” one asked.

While a second added: “Gabriel was so not prepared to start that, not only did he almost cause a goal in the 2nd minute, he also put his socks on back to front.”

“Gabriel managed to put his socks on back to front? How is that even possible?” quizzed a third.

As a fourth posed: “Gabriel’s had a ‘mare. Put his socks on back to front. Is that even possible?!”

But one user managed to work out what had happened, pointing out that footballer’s cut their socks at the ankle, so it was an easy mistake to make.

They explained: “They cut the socks off above the ankles so it just covers the shin and above, and use socks with grip on it(the white part) separately.”
