Gareth Southgate urged his squad to create their own England legacies on Tuesday as he showed them a motivational video during an inspirational team meeting.

During the first day of England’s Euros camp at St George’s Park, Southgate gathered his players and promptly made them watch an in-house movie depicting some of the team’s greatest moments.

Southgate addressed players, asking them to reflect on their own personal memories of bygone tournaments England were involved in — telling them to use those recollections as fuel for the Euros.

The England boss also asked players to recall their childhood pastimes of collecting stickers or coins during major tournaments.

All 26 players received their own commemorative legacy cap to mark their place in England’s history. They are the first players to receive the memento. All senior debutants will receive the legacy cap from September onwards.

Luke Shaw said: ‘The video was about the past players and how important they were to this nation.

‘At the end of the video there was a little bit about us. The video was very inspiring.

‘You felt like you got a lot of confidence and belief from watching that video, I looked around the whole group and felt like everyone had that same feeling.’

Luke Shaw revealed England are already taking penalties in training ahead of the tournament

After a gruelling season, there are concerns fatigue could play a key factor during the Euros.

But Shaw insists the squad are ready to put their bodies on the line, adding that tiredness cannot be used as an excuse.

He said: ‘Of course it’s been a gruelling season but when it comes to a major tournament, fatigue goes out the window. You want to give your life for this team, everything you’ve got to make the whole nation happy. Fatigue isn’t an option really.’

Shaw also revealed the team have already started practising penalties ahead of the tournament.

After a dreadful run in shootouts, England have won their last two — and Shaw added: ‘To win tournaments, we’re going to have to be ready for shootouts.

‘The last two we’ve had we’ve won, which is positive, but for sure we’re going to be practising them, no matter how far away the knockout stages are. We need to be ready and practice makes perfect.’
