Manchester United legend Gary Neville wants to see the Red Devils thin out their squad this summer, picking out three first team players to be shown the exit door.
The Sky Sports pundit has been vocal about his former club, criticising the ownership off the field and remaining unconvinced of the team’s performances on it.
While United continue to be linked to high-profile players Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and Harry Kane, the former United captain wants Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to raise funds by showing three players out of Old Trafford.
Neville said: “If you think about next season, I think Juan Mata has done fantastically for the club but I think he’ll leave.
“I think they could get good money for Daniel James, he could maybe go somewhere else and they could get good money for him.
“There’s a feeling that Jesse Lingard has done really well at West Ham, but I think Ole will say, ‘no, go and explore elsewhere’ and will get good money for Jesse Lingard.”
Mata signed for a club-record £37.1m under David Moyes in 2014, leading United to three major trophies, but has seen gametime limited in recent seasons.
Meanwhile, James only signed in 2019 and has slipped down the pecking order after starting brightly, with academy graduate Greenwood and new signing Amad Diallo preferred by Solskjaer.
Lingard has experienced a renaissance since joining West Ham on loan in January, having failed to make a league appearance in the first half of the season.
However, Neville insists that Donny van de Beek, who has struggled to make an impact this season, should not join them out of the exit door.
“Van de Beek has got to stay I think, he just has to in my opinion, then you look at the rest of them,” Neville added.
“You’ve got Rashford, Fernandes, Greenwood, Pogba, Martial, Van de Beek then Cavani at the top.”
