Gary Neville will not be watching Cristiano Ronaldo’s second debut at Man Utd

Gary Neville will not be at Old Trafford when Cristiano Ronaldo makes his second Manchester United debut – because he'll be watching Salford City instead.

Ronaldo, 36, is set to pull on a United shirt for the first time since 2009 on Saturday, having secured a shock return to the club 12 years after departing to join Real Madrid.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed the five-time Ballon d'Or winner will make his second Red Devils bow against Newcastle at Old Trafford, although it is unclear whether that will be as a starter or a substitute.

Either way, the atmosphere will be electric when CR7 either starts or comes off the bench – but Neville won't be there to witness it.

That's because the United legend will instead be watching Salford – the League Two club he co-owns with fellow Class of 92 icons David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and brother Phil – when they take on Bradford City at Moor Lane.

During an interview with SPORTbible, Neville said: "On Saturday, Manchester United are playing Newcastle at 3 o'clock and Salford are playing Bradford.

"And I'm gonna go and watch Salford.

"And I know everyone in my family, my wife and my daughters are going to watch Cristiano. It's like… you're taking the p*** by the way. I've got a football club over here!

"But I know as soon as I get home I'm gonna get a rerun of the game from Sky, because I'm doing Monday Night Football and I want to watch that game as well.
