Gianluigi Donnarumma was sent off for a flying “kung-fu kick” just ten minutes into Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 fixture against Le Havre.
The goalkeeper, 24, was caught in two minds on the edge of his box as a long ball was played over the top. He waited too long and was beaten to the bounce of the ball by Josue Casimir.
But having misjudged the bounce, the Italian wildly swung his boot at it and caught the Le Havre attacker at head height. The referee responded by immediately showing him a straight red card, leaving PSG to play the remainder of the game with a man down.

He followed up his moment of madness by complaining to the referee while captain Kylian Mbappe encouraged him to leave the field of play. And fans took to social media to slam the goalkeeper’s shocking attempt to play the ball.
One X user wrote: “Donnarumma clearly bored of football and wants to enter 2024 Royal Rumble,” while another tweeted: “Donnarumma thinks he’s a UFC fighter with that kick.”
A third added: “He has been watching Kung Fu Panda,” while a fourth pointed out: “I love how he tries to dispute it as if he wasn’t at fault.”

Others agreed, commenting: “How are they arguing that?!” and: “There was literally only one decision the ref could make and he got it 100% correct.”
It comes as just the latest in a catalogue of recent howlers for the EURO 2020 Player of the Tournament. He was responsible for gifting the ball to Monaco’s Takumi Minamino last week, who punished the Italian by netting an equaliser.
During the Champions League clash with Newcastle midweek, the former AC Milan star’s weak parry fell straight to Alexander Isak, who converted to take the lead. Donnarumma will be suspended for PSG’s next Ligue 1 games, which will come against Nantes and Lille.
