Football Digest: Analysing Man Utd's failed recruitment
Liverpool and Manchester United are in with a shot of completing a late summer deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, according to reports. Gravenberch is ready for a new challenge away from Bavaria and could land in the Premier League in the dying embers of the transfer window.
Liverpool and United could move for another midfielder before Friday’s deadline, with Gravenberch among the names linked with both clubs.
Erik ten Hag added Mason Mount to his ranks in a £60m deal before offloading Fred to Fenerbahce after he entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp has splashed £134million to lure Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo to Anfield to cover an exodus of midfielders.
James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have all left Merseyside this summer.
And now the German boss could be eyeing a fourth arrival in the form of Gravenberch to bolster his engine room further.
According to Sky Germany, there is a sense that Liverpool will push to sign Gravenberch in the coming days.

The 21-year-old hasn’t been informed of any deal so far, and Bayern are awaiting concrete offers to take him away from the Allianz Arena.
Gravenberch is fourth in Thomas Tuchel’s midfield pecking order after Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Konrad Laimer.
The report claims he is unhappy with his current situation and wants to play regularly this season after a frustrating first year at Bayern.
Klopp’s new-look midfield has shown promising signs in the early stages of the campaign, picking up two wins and a draw against Chelsea, AFC Bournemouth and Newcastle United.
Endo, Mac Allister and Szoboszlai all started Sunday’s 2-1 triumph at Newcastle, and it is expected to be Liverpool’s first-choice trio going forward.

It’s a different story for Ten Hag, who has overseen a turbulent start to the season despite picking up two wins from three on paper.
United’s midfield has been a primary cause for concern, with Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Mount struggling to co-exist in the opening two games against Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur.
There is a need for more steel alongside Casemiro to prevent him from being isolated, with Fred no longer in the picture and Ten Hag actively seeking to sell Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek.
And Gravenberch could provide that if United gather the funds to launch a permanent or loan pursuit before the window slams shut.
