Grealish praises "brilliant" Southgate after another stand-out performance

Jack Grealish heaped praise upon Gareth Southgate following England's comfortable 3-0 friendly victory over the Republic of Ireland.

Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored during what was an easy win for the Three Lions.

But it was Grealish who was arguably the best player on the pitch again as he once more staked his claim for a place in next summer's Euro squad.

It may have taken Southgate some time to give Grealish his chance, but the Aston Villa man is now flourishing under his guidance.

And speaking after full-time Grealish seemed highly positive about his future for the national team.

“I want to play as much as possible and all I've got to do is try and impress the manager as much as I can,” he said.

“Since I have been here he has brilliant with me, talking to me and telling me what he wants me to do."

"It was good to get my second start. I thought we controlled the game well and obviously it is nice to get the win.

"It is what I have been trying to do this season, trying to score more. I got the assist for Jadon and I am happy with that. I could have scored and assisted a couple more but hopefully I will save those ones.”

Following Thursday's qualifying games England's group for the Euros has been confirmed, with Southgate's side due to take on Croatia, Czech Republic and Scotland next summer.

And if Grealish carries on his fine form for both club and country it is hard to imagine he will not be heavily involved in the tournament.

Before then, however, England will turn their attentions towards the Nations League, with the Three Lions taking on Belgium on Sunday followed by Iceland on Wednesday.
