PSV Eindhoven star Eran Zahavi's wife has revealed she was the victim of a "horrifying" robbery on Sunday which saw her and her children tied up and gagged in their Amsterdam home.
Zahavi was absent for PSV's clash with Willem II Tilburg after rushing back to his home when he heard about the incident.
His wife, Shay, posted on Instagram: “Yesterday, my family and I went through a horrifying experience of robbery and attack in the place that is supposed to be the safest in the world for us – our home.
“We went through some difficult hours and we need a moment to take in everything.”
Zahavi also posted a message on Instagram after the terrifying ordeal, thanking people for sending messages of support and calling for the family's privacy to be respected.
“This is an unpleasant incident, far beyond a standard break-in to a house and theft of property,” the Israel striker wrote.
Shay also added: “It is important to note that the children were not touched and they are fine! Physically. Mentally, all of us will need to work together and get through this in the best way.”
Amsterdam police are now investigating the robbery and have called for witnesses to come forward, while also releasing details of the incident.

The robbers, one of whom is believed to have been dressed in a deliveryman's jacket, are alleged to have threatened Shay before tying her and her four children up and gagging their mouths with tape.
They then ransacked the house and got away with a number of personal items along with cash.
The police statement said: “Fortunately, the woman and children were not injured, but the robbery was very tough and traumatic for all involved."
Zahavi is coming towards the end of his first season with PSV, joining the Dutch club from Chinese outfit Guangzhou R&F back in September.
