Houssem Aouar has agreed to join Arsenal from Lyon, with Mikel Arteta ’s side now looking to strike an agreement over a fee.

The midfielder is a top target for Arteta late in the summer transfer window.

And the Gunners are edging closer to signing him from the Ligue 1 outfit after getting the player’s approval ahead of a potential transfer.

Aouar is said to have favoured a possible move to Barcelona or Juventus over Arsenal.

However, neither giant of Europe have made a concrete offer for his services, meaning Arsenal are frontrunners to land the 22-year-old.

Arsenal and Lyon are in discussions over the amount it will cost to take Aouar from France to England.

And according to Telefoot Chaine , Arsenal have already made their first bid for Aouar.

The figure is unknown at this stage, but it shows the Gunners are keen to get a deal over the line.

Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey has also been firmly on Arteta’s agenda as he looks to bolster his midfield options.

But progress over a £45m move for the Ghana international has been slow amid talks over Lucas Torreira’s future and a potential exchange.

Amid the pursuit of Aouar, Arteta spoke today about Liverpool’s recent business ahead of Arsenal’s game against the Premier League champions at Anfield on Monday.

The Spaniard said: “I think they are getting better and better and they have less weaknesses. They are a fantastic side.

“The issue with the weaknesses of opponents is how many you are able to exploit and how many opportunities you get to do that.

“With all the incredible things that they have, you know they are going to still be able to do them. So I want to focus on what we have to do and control our own aspects.

“It is like quick waves all the time with them, without much time to breathe. It is a really quick game, it doesn’t see long sequences of passes against them.”
