Security fears ahead of next summer’s Euros have been raised after an investigation into a prank that was staged at the draw for the group stage earlier this month.

England were handed a relatively straightforward Group in the draw, which took place in Hamburg’s iconic Elbphilharmonie concert hall, and will face Serbia, Slovenia and Denmark next year.

During the ceremony, however, sex noises could be heard over the sound system, with Brian Laudrup in particular hiding a smirk as he continued to draw names from the pots.

Given the concerns over how such a prank might be able to take place, an investigation was duly launched into the fiasco.

It then emerged that two individuals managed to enter the venue, undisguised, after two failed attempts, according to reports.

Caught on camera, the duo are thought to have been able to enter the main draw hall unchallenged, before taping a mobile phone to a microphone beneath a stand, occupied by Laudrup.

Later, once the draw officially got underway, they reportedly re-entered the venue via a caterers’ access point, they are thought to have begun calling the phone.

The sex noises that could be heard coming from beneath Laudrup’s microphone had been set as the ring-tone for the device.

According to reports, a private security firm in Germany bore responsibility for checking access to the Elbphilharmonie.

Hamburg prosecutors have also reportedly launched a criminal investigation into the prank, attempting to locate the two pranksters.

The two who were caught on the camera are yet to be identified, and it is considered that a third might have been involved as well.

The prank was reminiscent of a similar one that took place earlier this year during the BBC’s coverage of Liverpool’s replay at Wolves.

The English comedian responsible for the prank earlier this year recorded a social media video claiming responsibility for the issue in Hamburg, although that has not yet been ratified.

Reports suggested that UEFA far from pleased after the breach less than a year out from the tournament

As a result of the breach, though, UEFA are thought to have made it apparent that they deemed the fiasco unacceptable.

The governing body also suggested that if a mobile device could be hidden with relative ease, then there is potential for ‘something more sinister’ as the report claims.

The prank was recognised briefly by UEFA’s deputy general-secretary Giorgio Marchetti who  was in attendance, but the event continued apace.

The tournament is due to take place in Germany next summer, with the first game – between the hosts and Scotland – kicking off at the Allianz Arena on June 14.
