Arsenal V Tottenham: Pictures
Tottenham star James Maddison will reportedly have a scan on his knee after sustaining a knock during the north London derby on Sunday afternoon. The England international was instrumental in his side’s 2-2 draw that prevented Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal from claiming bragging rights over them.
Maddison has thrived since joining Spurs from Leicester City over the summer in a deal worth £40million, scoring two and assisting four in six Premier League appearances. The 26-year-old has been deployed as a No 10 in Ange Postecoglou’s system and appears to be the creative midfielder that Tottenham have desperately needed for many years.
Given his importance, Tottenham were understandably fearful when Maddison went down in pain at the Emirates Stadium after jolting his knee after his foot got caught in the pitch. The playmaker required on-pitch treatment but was able to carry on and was only replaced in the 78th minute by Pierre-Emile Hjojberg.
According to Football.London, Maddison is set to undergo a scan on his knee this week to see if there was an issue, though the player did not appear to be in any discomfort when undergoing his media duties after the full-time whistle sounded.

It is reported that Maddison’s ‘initial feeling is positive’ about his knee, in what will be a relief to many, though the true extent of the problem is likely to become more clear on Monday morning.
A spell on the sidelines would be a hammer blow to Postecoglou given that his side are fourth in the Premier League and on their way to asserting themselves as title contenders. The way that Tottenham came from behind to draw with Arsenal on Sunday was an indicator that the squad have a new-found belief in themselves and the project, with Heung-min Son stepping up as a leader when it mattered most.

The forward scored both goals for Tottenham, equalising from close range in the 42nd minute from a Maddison cross after Bukayo Saka had put the Gunners in front after his strike deflected off of Cristian Romero and left Guglielmo Vicario with no chance.
Arsenal then reclaimed the lead in the 54th minute when Saka converted from the penalty spot after VAR ruled that Romero had handled the ball inside the penalty area. Arteta’s side’s lead lasted just seconds though as Maddison pinched the ball from Jorginho deep in the Arsenal half and teed up Son to slide home in emphatic style.
