  • The 28-year-old’s form at West Ham has earned him a recall to the England squad

Manchester United could bring Jesse Lingard back into the first-team fold next season and may even offer him a new contract, according to reports.

The 28-year-old is currently on loan at West Ham until the end of the season where he has reignited his Premier League career, scoring five times and registering three assists in his seven Hammers league games to date.

Lingard had previously been frozen out by United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, failing to make a single appearance in the Premier League or Champions League and was named in just four top-flight matchday squads this term.

Man United may reportedly offer Jesse Lingard a new deal amid a good loan spell at West Ham

Lingard has scored five goals and laid on three assists since joining the Hammers in January

But according to The Sun, United and Solskjaer have been very impressed with Lingard’s displays out on loan and will consider offering him a new deal when his loan spell at West Ham ends in June.

Lingard’s current contract at United ends in the summer of 2022 but the Red Devils could be prepared to offer the midfielder a three-year contract in order to both increase his value and give him a chance to impress Solskjaer once again.

The report also states West Ham will try to make Lingard’s time at the London Stadium a permanent one starting from next season.

David Moyes’ side are currently challenging for Europe and lie in fifth-placed – two points behind London rivals Chelsea in the final Champions League spot.

Lingard has also been rewarded for his good form in east London with a recall to Gareth Southgate’s England squad, having lost his place in the side following his exile at United.

The on-loan West Ham man played 90 minutes in the Three Lions’ 5-0 win over San Marino on Thursday and is in contention to start England’s other two qualifiers against Albania and Poland in the coming days.

Lingard recently claimed he has been boosted by his West Ham spell and is solely focused on trying to get the Hammers into Europe next season.

The midfielder told the FA this week: ‘It’s a bit like a new lease of life. I’ve moved to London, which is different, different group of lads – all the lads are brilliant at West Ham, they’ve welcomed me with open arms.

Lingard’s form for West Ham earned him a recall to the England squad and line-up this month

‘The staff have been great and the whole club, the whole set-up is really good. I’m playing week in week out and I’m doing something that I love so, for me, it’s been perfect. Like you say, it’s a new lease of life.

‘It’s just about believing and doing well for West Ham – scoring, assisting, winning games – and I think obviously you know that’s what warranted me a place here, just being on form.

‘When I went on loan to West Ham I had a lot of targets written down. Certain ones I’ve hit already and I will continue that for the rest of the season so it’s just about having the right mindset and right focus – coming to West Ham and trying to help out the team, trying to fight for Europe, and I also have individual targets as well.’
