Sir Jim Ratcliffe has waited his entire life to get his foot in the door at Manchester United.
So another week won't bother him as he prepares to complete a deal to seal a 25 per cent stake in the English giants. And once this happens, the hard work begins.
Because Ratcliffe's ultimate ambition is to own the club outright. His vision is to make United the most successful club on the planet again – whatever it costs.

He wants to return United to the times when they ruled the roost at home and abroad, under the leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson. And it's understood he's set himself a deadline of 18 months with which to prize United out of the possession of the unpopular American owners the Glazers.
Yet if Ratcliffe is willing to the dance with the devils, he will have to be prepared to meet the Glazers' asking price. It once stood at £9billion, but the Floridians are willing to come down in price to some degree, depending on the market value in future months.

Ratcliffe has seen off the challenge of fellow bidder Sheikh Jassim, from Qatar, who pulled out of the bidding process last weekend. The petrochemicals billionaire is now poised to spend £1.4billion, in return for a significant stake in United.
The Old Trafford board, with the permission of the Glazers, have ratified the deal.
Ratcliffe and his group, which is expected to include former British Cycling guru Sir Dave Brailsford, are keen to focus on the sporting side of the business. Which means Ratcliffe will oversee transfers, team performance, analytics and sports science.
But aside from this, in the background, he will be working on persuading the Glazers to sell him the keys to the whole castle.
