Jude Bellingham has been ignoring Liverpool’s early attempts to bring him to Anfield next summer in order to hold out for a potential move to Real Madrid, according to reports. The England playmaker has been linked with Liverpool for a number of years and is said to be high on Jurgen Klopp’s wish list, with the Reds manager keen on adding a new first-choice midfielder to his ranks in the near future.

The Merseyside giants have been named among the favourites to land Bellingham when he eventually leaves Borussia Dortmund, where he remains tied down until the summer of 2025 as things stand. However, it seems as though Liverpool could be poised to miss out on the player’s services as a result of his desire to push for a move to Real Madrid.

Bellingham has already received multiple offers from the Premier League, according to Marca via Paisley Gates, with Liverpool said to have reached out to his representatives alongside a handful of other clubs. Their advances have reportedly fallen on deaf ears, though, with the Dortmund ace thought to be ignoring all offers in the hope that Real Madrid will come calling.

It is claimed that Bellingham is determined to join the La Liga giants after deciding not to sign a new contract at Dortmund upon the request of his Spanish suitors. They are preparing to launch an official bid for his services at the end of the season and have already identified him as their priority target, which suggests that Liverpool may be forced to yield in the race to secure his signature.

Real Madrid nipped ahead of Liverpool to bring Aurelien Tchouameni to the Bernabeu earlier this year and would stand a good chance of doing so again with regards to Bellingham if the opportunity arises next summer. However, with ‘special insistence’ from Klopp, the Reds are said to be equally keen on landing the England man in spite of his preference to join Real Madrid.

The Liverpool boss is still highly respected at Dortmund, the club he managed before moving to Anfield in 2015, and will undoubtedly be hoping to pull some strings in order to swing proceedings in his favour over the coming months. It remains to be seen if Bellingham can be convinced to join Liverpool in the not-too-distant future, though, with Real Madrid seemingly in pole position to snap him up at the end of the campaign.

The player himself insisted earlier this month that he is not yet considering the possibility of a move away from Dortmund, with his sights firmly set on continuing his development on an upward trajectory as things stand.

“I’m here to win for Borussia Dortmund and I’m very happy here at the minute,” Bellingham told reporters before scoring for Dortmund in their defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League group stages. “I’m focused on all of the goals we have as a team and I’m not looking past that.

“The club have done loads for me and made me feel very welcome since I first came and gave me the opportunities to develop even further. To look past that and into the future would be disrespectful. It’s not something I am thinking about, to be honest.”
