Liverpool assistant Lijnders lavishes praise on Salah
Liverpool legend Steve McManaman believes that West Ham star Jarrod Bowen is capable of replacing Mohamed Salah when he decides to leave his former side. The winger has been linked with a move to Anfield previously and he could become a more important target in the next 12 months.
Salah was heavily linked with a move away from Merseyside towards the latter stages of the summer transfer window when Saudi Pro League sides arrived with lucrative offers. However, the Reds ruled that he was not for sale, with the player also avoiding getting involved with speculation.
Fresh bids are anticipated in January and at the end of the season, with a fee of £200million reportedly expected to test the resolve of Liverpool given that it will make Salah the most expensive transfer of all time. Given that those levels of finances won’t be out of reach in the Middle East, Liverpool may already be weighing up their options going forward.
Bowen is a player who has been targeted by the Reds previously, and the England international has earned the seal of approval from McManaman. Asked by Betfred whether the 26-year-old is capable of replacing Salah, he said: “I don’t see why not. He looked very dangerous against Liverpool on Sunday and he’s shown in the last couple of years what a good player he is.

“He caused Liverpool many problems but you don’t know whether they’d like to sign a bigger name if they lose Salah and when you consider the money they’d receive for Mo. However, I do believe that Jarrod Bowen could easily fit in at Liverpool because he’s a hard worker, he can play on the right or down the middle and he’s very dangerous.
“It goes without saying that it will be very difficult for Liverpool to replace Mohamed Salah considering all he’s done for the club, but Jarrod Bowen could easily fit into their side and we will see if Jürgen can work his magic and develop Jarrod even more.”

Jurgen Klopp has spoken previously about how highly he regards Bowen, in what may now be conceived as a transfer hint underlining Liverpool’s long-term interest in the versatile forward. Speaking last year, he said: “Bowen, what a player he became!” Unbelievable. We saw him as well at Hull and he was really good at that time. I’m not sure a lot of people expected this jump, but unbelievable player.”
West Ham have strengthened since allowing Declan Rice to join Arsenal and therefore are not in desperate need of transfer funds, and it remains to be seen what sort of figure they quote Liverpool for their No 20 if an enquiry is lodged.
