Kai Havertz reportedly missed Bayer Leverkusen’s pre-season fitness tests this weekend as he closes in on a big-money switch to Chelsea.
Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has been intent on making up for lost time in the wake of the club’s two-window transfer ban, signing Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva already this summer.
The Blues are now focussing their efforts on finalising their move for Havertz after weeks of discussions to lure the 21-year-old attacking midfielder to Stamford Bridge.
Reports earlier this month claimed Havertz had said yes to a five-year contract with Chelsea but that there was still some distance between the Premier League giants and Leverkusen over the German’s price.
However, Chelsea have now agreed to cough up €80million (£72m) up front plus a further €20m (£18m) in bonuses for Havertz.
According to Bild, Havertz underwent coronavirus testing with Leverkusen on Friday and Saturday which was a necessary requirement for him being able to play in Germany’s upcoming Nations League clashes with Spain and Switzerland.
