Liverpool ace Alexander-Arnold delivers perfect response after being ‘cut deep’

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold was reportedly “cut deep” after being snubbed by Gareth Southgate for the recent England squad.

But he showed little signs that missing out for the Three Lions has impacted his morale with his latest performance.

In fact, Alexander-Arnold issued an almost perfect response as he helped Liverpool thump Arsenal on Saturday.

In trademark fashion, the right-back delivered a pinpoint cross to set-up Diogo Jota’s first and help the Reds on their way to a 3-0 victory.

It’s been an unusually quiet couple of weeks for Alexander-Arnold over the international break, having been left out of the triple header of World Cup qualifiers by Southgate.

It was a surprise omission from the Three Lions boss, who preferred Kyle Walker, Reece James and Kieran Tripper over Alexander-Arnold.

But the 22-year-old will surely have put himself back in the running for the next call-up, which will in fact be for the Euros this summer.

The Athletic report that Alexander-Arnold used his time to work closely with Jurgen Klopp and Pep Lijnders on his decision making, after some questionable performances during Liverpool’s dip in form.

And it appears to be paying off, having provided his first assist since January, and only his fourth all year, considerably less than the 13 he came up with last season.

Klopp spoke of his surprise at Alexander-Arnold’s omission ahead of the win over Arsenal at the weekend, admitting that he was completely taken aback by Southgate’s choice.

“If Trent Alexander-Arnold is not in the squad of England then England must have an extremely good squad, let me say it like this,” said the German.
