Bournemouth v Liverpool: Pictures
Liverpool could face history repeating itself in the January transfer window if they don’t act quickly to strike a deal for Sporting star Goncalo Inacio. The Reds are desperate to bolster their defensive ranks and ensure that they have the depth required to compete in all competitions, though they aren’t shopping alone in that market.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have enjoyed a strong start to the Premier League campaign, winning seven of their opening 10 matches to put themselves in fourth place in the table. Liverpool have also impressed in the Europa League and the Carabao Cup, with confidence growing in Merseyside that they could push for at least one piece of silverware this season.
The Reds reshuffled their ranks significantly over the summer, with Klopp orchestrating a major rebuild of his midfield. Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch all joined the Merseyside outfit, replacing the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.
Liverpool were keen to sign a left-sided defender before the start of the season as well, making enquiries into the availability of Chelsea’s Levi Colwill, but ultimately decided to wait until January to push more vigorously on that front. Sporting defender Inacio has reportedly been identified as a top target in that department, though the Reds aren’t alone in their interest.

According to Spanish news outlet AS, Real Madrid have joined the race to sign the 22-year-old and they feel that he is a defender who can add quality to their squad in both the short and long term. The Santiago Bernabeu outfit are struggling with a string of defensive injuries and are hopeful of signing at least one reinforcement in January to prevent the problems from being too detrimental.
Inacio has a £52million release clause in his contract, which was added over the summer, and Madrid are happy to fork out such a fee when the transfer window opens to ensure that they secure the signature of the Portugal international.

Liverpool will be hoping that history is not repeating itself with Inacio, having missed out on signing Jude Bellingham to Madrid over the summer after the English playmaker had his head turned by the prospect of joining Los Blancos.
The Reds were desperate to sign the ex-Borussia Dortmund playmaker and completed plenty of groundwork in the deal before being forced to cool their interest due to the significant fees that would be involved in signing the midfielder – which Madrid was more than content with paying. Signing Inacio would be the perfect revenge for Klopp, but the German boss must push the higher powers at Anfield to act quickly or his team risks another transfer being hijacked by Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
