Liverpool may have ideal Jurgen Klopp replacement with ‘different breed’ boss

Liverpool may have Jurgen Klopp’s replacement lined up after being told that Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is a ‘different breed’. Former Reds star Adam Lallana, who is now with the Seagulls, has lavished praise on De Zerbi and given a fine reference of the Italian to Liverpool.

De Zerbi has elevated Brighton to a new level during his 12 months in charge. The 44-year-old took the South Coast outfit into the Europa League last season – the first time the club have competed in European competition.

But the former midfielder has already been linked with bigger jobs. Tottenham are widely reported to have considered De Zerbi before appointing Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

Liverpool could also come calling if Klopp departs in the next few years. Despite insisting that his future remains at Anfield, the German has been suggested as a future coach of his national team.

But Liverpool may already know of Klopp’s successor after Lallana listed several qualities the former Shakhtar boss possesses. Many are similar to those of the current Reds boss.

“The manager? I don’t know how he does it. The prep for every game. He will have his Italian coaches around his house, the chef cooking food, watching games, it’s his life,” Lallana told the Daily Telegraph about De Zerbi.

“His family are in Italy and he sacrifices so much. He puts everything into it. It is not luck, I will tell you that. He is obsessed. Puffing on them fags [cigarettes], no wonder. He’s a different breed.”

Klopp was linked with the Germany job after Hansi Flick’s dismissal earlier this month. But the 56-year-old says he is committed to rebuilding Liverpool after a disappointing campaign last term, in which his side finished fifth.

“We’re building Liverpool 2.0 here, we want to attack again and not just look at how much longer can we go on. I have a loyalty to Liverpool,” Klopp said about his future last week.

“My heart is here in Liverpool. You can’t just cut out the eight years. I signed a contract here and, as far as I can remember, I wasn’t drugged or tied up and had to sign with my mouth. That was a free decision. And that’s why it doesn’t fit.”

A summer overhaul has seen Liverpool begin the Premier League season in good form. After a 1-1 draw with Chelsea on the opening days of the campaign, Liverpool have won their last six matches across all competitions.
