Liverpool set to put two first-team stars up for sale during transfer window

Liverpool could reportedly look to sell first-team stars Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri during the January transfer window.

Origi and Shaqiri have been on the fringes of Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League champions, seemingly behind plenty of other Reds stars.

Shaqiri has featured in just two Premier League games all season with both coming off the bench.

Origi, meanwhile, has played just one minute of Premier League football this season despite being a Champions League hero in 2018/19.

And ESPN report both could find themselves leaving Anfield next month with Klopp potentially looking to sign a new defender.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are both in battles to play again this season due to knee injuries.

ESPN add that offers could be listened to for Origi and Shaqiri, especially if money received would help fund a move for a defender.

Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly is one name that has regularly been linked with a move to Anfield.

And Liverpool legend John Barnes reckons his former club could tempt the centre-back into heading to the Premier League.

Speaking on behalf of BonusCodeBets, Barnes said: "If Koulibaly comes, he’s a player that could play alongside Van Dijk when he returns so it would be easy to talk Koulibaly into joining Liverpool – unlike some other top players, because he’s a person that if he comes would go straight into the first team and play every match.

"If Liverpool are unable to get anyone to improve the first team then why sign a new player?

"January is not always the best time to buy because all of the top players you want to come into your team are going to be in the Champions League still, so it might be hard to convince them to come if they’re not going to be playing every week.

"If Liverpool are desperate and need somebody, they’ll get them in. But I don’t think Jurgen Klopp is a particular fan of buying in January."
