Aston Villa v Liverpool: Match in pictures
Liverpool were reportedly surprised by Mohamed Salah’s recent hint at a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona, but remain calm about his situation. The forward triggered speculation over his future when he described the La Liga giants as ‘top clubs’, saying: ‘We never know what is going to happen in the future.’
Transfer talk was then ramped up when Salah’s former Egypt team-mate Mohamed Aboutrika claimed his compatriot was ‘not happy’ at Liverpool.
It has since been reported that Salah is eyeing a contract extension at Anfield, with his current deal set to expire in 2023.
The forward has continued his fine form for Jurgen Klopp’s side, having scored 13 goals in 16 Premier League appearances this season, plus another three in the Champions League and one in the FA Cup.
It is clear to see why both Real and Barcelona would be interested in swooping for the 28-year-old in the summer transfer window – but Liverpool are not worried about losing their star man.

That’s according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who says the Reds have not received any official communication from either club over Salah.
“In this moment, interest? For sure, because, obviously, we’re talking about a fantastic player so it’s impossible for any club not to be interested in him,” said Romano in an interview with Give Me Sport.
“But at the moment, there is nothing advanced with this agent or with Liverpool.
“Liverpool have not received anything from these clubs, so they were a bit surprised, but they know that what Salah said is ‘one day I would like to play in these clubs’.
“(This) is normal because we’re talking about two major clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona, also to change leagues.”
Liverpool are believed to be focused on extending the contracts of Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho, with talks over a new deal for Salah believed to be on the back burner for now.

Romano said: “His agent is negotiating with the club to understand what’s going on for the (new) contract.
“They are not negotiating right now but, for sure, the concept of Salah will be something they talk about, like in the next year.
“So we will see, but, for sure, at the moment, Liverpool are really calm about the situation of Salah.
“They are happy with him and they are concentrating more on other players like Fabinho, Van Dijk, extending their contracts, and then we will see what’s going on with Salah.”
Last month, Salah caused a stir when he appeared to open the door to a La Liga switch in an interview with AS.
The Liverpool forward told the Spanish publication: “I think Madrid and Barcelona are top clubs.
“We never know what is going to happen in the future, but right now I’m focused on winning the Premier League and the Champions League again with my club.”
Asked how much longer he sees himself playing at Anfield, the Egyptian added: “That’s a tough one, but right now I can say that everything is in the club’s hands.”
There were reports that Salah was unhappy at not being made captain for the night when Liverpool played Midtjylland in the Champions League.

His former international team-mate Aboutrika told beIN Sports: “I called Salah about his situation at Liverpool and he is upset, but that would never affect his performance on the field.
“I know that Salah is not happy in Liverpool, he told me the reasons why he is not happy but they are secrets and I cannot talk about it in public.
“One of the reasons that made Salah angry was that he was not the captain against Midtjylland.”
