Liverpool star Darwin Nunez had to be held back by Jurgen Klopp from Pep Guardiola after the final whistle at the Etihad with both seemingly irate at one another. Liverpool and City couldn’t be separated on the pitch after Trent Alexander-Arnold cancelled out Erling Haaland’s opener.
The match threatened to boil over in the dying minutes as City pushed for a winner while Liverpool battled to hold on. But tempers only flared up on the touchline after the final whistle with Nunez and Guardiola unhappy with one another.
Cameras didn’t pick up how the confrontation started, but Nunez was irate and was seen wagging his finger at Guardiola while Klopp moved him away from the situation. The Liverpool boss tried calming his striker down with Pep Lijnders stopping Guardiola from approaching Nunez.
Klopp was eventually able to get Nunez to walk away from the scenario, but Guardiola appeared to be perplexed by the exchange.
