Former Chelsea striker Loic Remy once reveals Eden Hazard once described himself as ‘the boss’ on the forward’s first day of training at Stamford Bridge.

Remy, who announced his retirement from football at the age of 36, amazingly claims that the winger arrived to training with his laces undone – much to the Frenchman’s shock.

The 26-year-old was familiar with Hazard, playing against the winger when he was in France with Marseille and Nice.

When the forward was signed by Jose Mourinho in 2014, he was quick to impress from the off, but was left stunned by Hazard’s mentality in training.

Speaking to GOAL back in 2020, Remy said: ‘I knew Eden before I signed for Chelsea. ‘I used to play against him when I was at Marseille and Nice, and he was at Lille.

‘So, in my first session at Chelsea, he arrived on to the training pitch with his laces undone and welcomed me. I asked him: ‘Are you really going to train like this?’ He said: ‘Yes, no problem’.

‘I felt like going into a Chelsea training session that the intensity would be very high because it is such a big club and I put pressure on myself to perform at 100 per cent.

‘So, when I looked at Eden… He didn’t defend well in the session either, he gave away the ball and, at the end of training, I asked: ‘You train like this?’ He was like: ‘Don’t worry, I am the boss’. But not in an arrogant way, as he can be casual when he speaks.

Remy was handed his debut against Swansea in September 2014. The Frenchman came off the bench in the second half and scored to make it 4-1.

There is no better feeling in football than to score on your debut for your new club. Remy was quick to praise the work of Hazard in the build-up to the fourth goal.

The Frenchman spoke about his first game for Mourinho’s side and what Hazard said to him after the game.

‘Then, along comes the first game for Chelsea and I am on the bench against Swansea City (September 2014).

‘Diego Costa scored a hat-trick, so Jose Mourinho brings me on and I scored a debut goal, but only after Eden danced around the box with the ball before giving to Oscar to set it up.

As for Hazard, the 32-year-old has recent announced his retirement from the sport

‘I was so happy in the dressing room afterwards. Then, Eden came up to me and said: ‘Now you see who is the boss!’ And he was the boss in his own eyes because he made everything look easy. He is such a genius of a player. ‘

Remy would go on to spend three years at Stamford Bridge before he was sold to Las Palmas in 2017.

As for Hazard, the tricky winger left the Blues in 2019 for Real Madrid after a successful seven year stint in south west London.

The 32-year-old recently confirmed his decision to retire from football, via a post on social media.

He has been without a club since he was released by Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer, having made just 76 appearances for the club.
