A financial expert claims Manchester City and Chelsea could be relegated if found guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play regulations after Everton were slapped with a 10-point deduction.
Both clubs are anxiously awaiting results of investigations into their financial past and news of Everton's penalty, which is the biggest points deduction in Premier League history, won't have sat well given the comparative severity of their alleged violations. City were hit with a mammoth 115 charges of FFP breaches last season, which they deny, while Chelsea are under the microscope for a series of third-party payments related to former owner Roman Abramovich.
Taking to X, former City financial advisor Stefan Borson said relegation to the Championship for either club could be on the cards, especially if the points deduction levelled at Everton stands after the Toffees' impending challenge.

"Without seeing the judgment/award -10 points for Everton feels harsh for a straightforward FFP breach to me," he wrote. "But reinforces that sanctions against City (if proven) and now Chelsea (if charged and admitted on the off-books payments) will be potentially relegation inducing."
He added: "One thing is for sure, given the scale of this sporting sanction, Chelsea's calculus (in my opinion) that they could breach PL P&S [profit and sustainability rules] and just take a fine as a cost of doing business, must be in urgent and immediate reconsideration."
What punishments should Man City and Chelsea face if found guilty? Let us know in the comments section below.
City were charged with 115 breaches of the Premier League's financial rules regarding sponsors and contracts across a nine-year time span back in February following a four-year investigation. The Manchester club has continually pleaded its innocence and insists it has "irrefutable evidence" that it has not fallen foul of regulations.
They have been accused of failing to give "a true and fair view of the club’s financial position", of failing to "include full details" of player and manager remuneration, of failing to comply with rules regarding financial fair play and failing to cooperate in a Premier League investigation that has concluded after more than four years.
