Manchester United remains in talks with Chelsea over a loan move for left-back Marc Cucurella.

The Red Devils have agreed personal terms with the Spaniard, who has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge since his £62million move from Brighton last summer.

Cucurella became a key target for Manchester United after their first-choice left-back Luke Shaw picked up a long-term muscular injury in training.

In the absence of both Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, who is also out through injury, Alvaro Fernandez, 20, is now Manchester United’s only recognised left-back option at the club.

Portuguese right-back Diogo Dalot starred on the left flank against Nottingham Forest last weekend, which saw United come from two goals behind to win 3-2 at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag’s side approached Chelsea with a £2.5m loan fee – but the Blues are after £5m

Mail Sport reported on Wednesday that the Red Devils had offered Chelsea a £2.5m loan fee for Cucurella, who has yet to feature in a Premier League starting line-up under new boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea are in the process of negotiating with United over the loan fee, which they believe should be in the region of £5m.

Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag is hoping to add Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat to his squad before the transfer deadline.

Having been hit with a £256,000 fine for breaching UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules back in July, United are keen to land both Cucurella and Amrabat on loan rather than on expensive permanent deals.
