Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, according to reports. Ronaldo still has one year left on his Juventus contract but his representatives are reportedly trying to gauge the interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs for his signature.

The 36-year-old is currently focusing on Portugal’s campaign at the European Championships, which kick off on Friday.

However, while he is working towards Wednesday’s final friendly against Israel and Portugal’s first Euro 2020 game against Hungary next week, work is continuing behind the scenes.

Ronaldo scored 36 goals in 44 games last season for Juventus and remains an attractive proposition in the transfer window, which opens on Wednesday for 12 weeks.

The Portuguese forward joined Juve from Real Madrid in 2018 on a four-year contract and could yet renew terms with the Italian giants.

Yet, according to ESPN, his representatives have also approached his former clubs United and Real Madrid, as well as Paris Saint-Germain, to see if they might be interested in signing their client.

Ronaldo has not decided on his future and it is unlikely anything will be finalised until after Euro 2020 reaches its conclusion on July 11.

The veteran forward has already spoken to new Juventus manager Max Allegri, who is replacing Andrea Pirlo for the 2021/22 season.

He would well stay in Turin next season, with ESPN reporting that Ronaldo’s high wage demands and Juventus’ asking price for his rights may prove difficult to overcome.

The market is depressed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and moving for a 36-year-old player may not be a prudent use of funds.

Ronaldo scored 117 goals in six years at United between 2003 and 2009, helping to win three Premier League titles, the Champions League and FA Cup before joining Real in a £80million transfer.

The report states United have not ruled out signing a striker this summer, despite extending Edinson Cavani’s contract for another season.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane remains a transfer target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but there are concerns about the expenditure required to earn his signature.

Kane has three more years on his Spurs contract and chairman Daniel Levy would ask for a huge transfer fee to allow him to join a Premier League rival.

United are in the market for a centre-back to partner Harry Maguire, while Borussia Dortmund Jadon Sancho is a long-standing transfer target.

The report states that the club are working on a plan of bringing in three new arrivals before the end of the transfer window on August 31.
