Manchester United believe that paying £120m for Jadon Sancho would represent good business over time, given the player’s huge talent and age profile.
The Borussia Dortmund star is being linked with a blockbuster move to Old Trafford this summer and are thought to be in pole position to sign him.
That is because they are the most willing to pay the massive asking price that the Germans want in order to sell him.
Sancho left Manchester City for Dortmund in 2017 in a deal worth £8m and his performances since them have seen his value rocket and make him Europe’s most sought-after young player.
He averages either a goal or an assist every game in the Bundesliga and the 20-year-old will surely only get better.
The winger has also been linked with the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, as well as Real Madrid and Barcelona.
But a return to England and the Premier League is his priority.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to continue his recent trend of signing young, British talent, and Sancho fits the bill.
But bringing him to the club would easily eclipse their club record £89m paid for Paul Pogba in 2016.
A likely exit for the Frenchman in the summer transfer window but contribute some funds to the Sancho deal, however.
United are said to be encouraged by the noises coming from the youngster's camp and are optimistic about their chances of signing him.
Sancho had 16 goals to his name in all competitions this term before coronavirus brought a suspension to play.
On the season’s resumption the Red Devils will see it as imperative that they continue their good form up to the end of the campaign.
Before the virus outbreak Solskjaer’s men closing the gap on fourth-placed Chelsea in their bid to seal a Champions League place.
