Manchester United fans have hit back at Virgil van Dijk’s mistakes, insisting Nemanja Vidic was the better defender.
Van Dijk helped Liverpool to their maiden Premier League crown last season, though had a mixed opener to this campaign.
He scored against Leeds United though was also at fault for Patrick Bamford’s goal as the Reds won 4-3 at Anfield.
Many believe Van Dijk is the best defender to ever grace the Prem, though United fans are often quick to disagree.
A stat showed that “since the start of the 2018-19 season, no outfield player has made more errors leading to goals in the Premier League than Virgil van Dijk (3).”
And United fans were quick to point that out, with one commenting: “Vidic made 3 errors leading to goals in his whole PL career btw. The guy they compare VVD to”.
And another posted: “In the 3 season's Manchester United won the title consecutively. United conceded 26,23 and 24 goals. Had the longest streak of clean sheets in the history of football 1260 mins (14 games) without conceding a goal. People are saying VVD is better than Rio [Ferdinand] and Vidic.”

While one more added: “VVD isn't fit to lace Vidic's boots when comparing 2018/19 stats to Vidic in 2008/09,”
Another put: “Most overrated centre back the league has seen. Doesn’t come close to players like Rio, [John] Terry, Vidic.”
And, following Van Dijk’s mistake against Leeds, one more added: “VVD vs Vidic debate is dusted. Your CB couldn't. He's a great CB but he's not even close to Vidic or even Terry. End of.”

Van Dijk had acknowledged his mistake, though was pleased to get Liverpool’s title defence off to a winning start.
He posted on social media: “Well well that was eventful! Loads of things that we could take from the game, positive and negative.
“Glad to get the win and contribute with my first goal of the season!”
