A group of Manchester United fans have been slammed by for singing "feed the Scousers" during a karaoke session.
The chant, to the tune 'Do They Know It’s Christmas', mocks poverty on Merseyside and is routinely aimed at Liverpool and Everton fans at this time of year. With tensions already high between Liverpool and United supporters ahead of today’s meeting at Anfield, a group of United fans disgraced themselves by working the chant into a rendition of the Band Aid hit, initially released in the 1980s to raise money and awareness about starvation in Africa.
The clip, which has been shared a by United fans’ X (formerly Twitter) account, has been criticised by both Liverpool fans and supporters of other clubs. Many United fans have also blasted the crass sing-song, pointing out Manchester’s own issues, plus the fact their player, Marcus Rashford, has campaigned against food poverty.

One said: “Not very funny, boring. Scousers, as much as I dislike them on match day, have much more in common with Manchester than the rest of England. Dated Jim Davidson humour.”
Another added: “I’m all for football banter but find this distasteful and classless. I sincerely hope we don’t hear the away end singing this at Anfield.”

Meanwhile, a Liverpool fan pointed out: “Yet your player ran a campaign to feed the kids in Manchester. Scousers don’t need campaigns, they always look after their own.”
One commented: “2 things: Working class people mocking poverty thrust upon them by a Tory government. Shame on you. As a scouser living in Manchester, trust me, certain parts of Manchester are really really deprived.”
Another branded the singers “Tory scruffs” while one mused: “I wonder what @MarcusRashford MBE thinks of this.” It isn't clear when and where the clip was filmed, but the fan account that shared the video revelled in the criticism, posting in response: "I stand by this. The amount of them offended by this is a joy to watch."
A section of United fans belted out the chant during their side’s recent victory at Everton. In response, the Toffees flashed up a logo of the Fans Supporting Foodbanks campaign – a joint initiative between Liverpool and Everton supporters – on the big screen at Goodison.
