Attempted rape charge against Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood dropped
Earlier in the week, reports claimed Mason Greenwood was a transfer target for Juventus. And it’s clear that, as the end of the season rapidly approaches, Manchester United have a big decision to make in regards to the 21-year-old and his future. They’re currently on track to pay him a further £8million in wages, despite the England international not featuring for the club since a 1-0 win over West Ham in January 2022.
Greenwood was arrested last January and, since then, has continued to be paid his £75,000-a-week wages by the club.
He is free to play football again after charges were dropped against him in February but, fast-forward to now, it’s still unclear what will happen.
Earlier in the week, there were reports suggesting Juventus were eyeing a deal for the England international come the end of the season.
They’re willing to loan in the forward and Paul Pogba, who left Old Trafford back in the summer, could play a role.
That means United are facing a big decision ahead of the summer.
Man Utd transfers: Ten Hag wants another Pogba and it makes sense
At present, they’ve paid Greenwood his full £75,000-a-week wages despite the fact he hasn’t kicked a ball for the club in well over a year – with his current contract due to expire in 2025.
Yet getting him off the wage bill this summer would prevent them from spending £8m more on the youngster, having forked out roughly £5m already so far.
United will need every penny as they look to strengthen the squad, amid suggestions they’ll only have a budget of £100million.
All of that would virtually be eaten into should, as expected, they attempt to praise Harry Kane away from Tottenham.
United are poised to rely on player sales to generate more funds, regardless of whether Sir Jim Ratcliffe or Sheikh Jassim purchase the club.

And offloading Greenwood, and freeing up a total close to £8m, would be a smart way of doing things.
As for the player himself, it was previously claimed he was willing to run through a brick wall in order to play for United again.
But he appears resigned to being forced to go abroad in order to salvage his career, with AC Milan linked as well.
Greenwood is poised to become a father amid his ongoing exile from the first team, while he also plans to get married.
It was reported earlier in the season that some United players were open to the idea of the 21-year-old returning to the fold.

Others, however, are said to think otherwise.
In February, it was suggested that staff members at the club were divided over what to do with Greenwood.
Some members would apparently be ‘deeply unhappy’ if the academy graduate was to ever pull on their red and white colours.
Yet there are those within United who supposedly feel a ‘duty of care’ towards the forward, who has not been found guilty of any crime.
Regardless of what happens, United intend on recruiting a new No 9.
And Kane isn’t the only player on their radar as the Red Devils look to challenge Manchester City and Arsenal for Premier League supremacy next term.
United are admirers of Victor Osimhen, who has netted 28 goals across all competitions for Napoli this season.
They’ve been put forward as an option for Goncalo Ramos, whose efforts have propelled Benfica to the cusp of yet another Primeira Liga title.
Some have claimed United are in the mix to land Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan, with the Argentina international continuing to shine at the San Siro.
And Randal Kolo Muani and Dusan Vlahovic, of Frankfurt and Juventus respectively, have been linked as well.
