Manchester United’s search for a new striker is reportedly underway as transfer chief John Murtough looks to follow up what was one of the most memorable windows in the club’s history. The Red Devils were linked with several forwards this summer and ended up bringing Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford in a blockbuster move.

United have a number of potential options to bring in next summer as their search for a new striker gets underway.

According to ESPN, Red Devils’ chiefs are looking into signing a new goalscorer next summer to follow the move for Ronaldo, who agreed a two-year deal.

Edinson Cavani’s deal is due to expire at the end of next season so United will likely be in need of more firepower in attack next term.

So from Erling Haaland to Harry Kane, Daily Express Sport looks at five options for Murtough to explore.

Robert Lewandowski

Despite recently turning 33, Lewandowski is still as potent as ever, topping the Bundesliga goalscoring charts last season.

The Poland striker is seeking a new challenge away from Bayern Munich though, according to Sky Sports, suggesting he could be on the move next summer with his contract due to expire a year later.

United have previously been linked with a move for Lewandowski, and he is yet to try his hand in the Premier League.

Erling Haaland

It’s well documented that Borussia Dortmund may have no alternative but to let star striker Haaland leave for just £68m next summer due to a clause in his contract.

The Norwegian hitman would be an absolute steal at that price, having scored 63 goals in the 64 games he’s played for Dortmund.

There will be a fierce competition for Haaland if that is the case though, with Real Madrid and Manchester City also said to be keeping tabs on him.

Harry Kane

Tottenham didn’t let Kane get his move this summer, but it remains to be seen if he will be allowed to leave in a little under 12 months time.

The England captain wasn’t available at any price during the recent window, so his likely fee is anyone’s guess.

But if Spurs endure another trophy-less season nobody can blame Kane for having another go at leaving, and a move to United would be an attractive prospect if they can afford him.

Mauro Icardi

With so much attacking firepower at PSG, it’s a wonder how Icardi will get a look in once Lionel Messi and Neymar are fit and raring to go.

The Argentine’s two Ligue 1 goals suggest he can force opportunities in the French capital, but rumours were rife of an exit over the summer.

And it will be interesting to see how things plan out for Icardi in one of the best frontlines football has ever seen.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Seen as potentially Harry Kane’s successor in years to come for England, Calvert-Lewin has been one of the most consistent strikers in the Premier League over the last couple of years.

The 24-year-old has begun the season in red hot form, and surely a possible move to one of the big boys will be on the cards soon.

With three years left to run on his contract this time next year, Calvert-Lewin certainly won’t come cheap, but he is a quality option that can’t be overlooked.
