Man Utd reach agreement with Jadon Sancho ‘in principle’ ahead of possible summer transfer

Manchester United have agreed a five-year contract ‘in principle’ with Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, it has been claimed. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to add the England ace to his ranks as he looks to close the gap on Premier League champions Liverpool.

Sancho has been in blistering form this season, netting 20 goals and providing 20 assists to his team-mates.

United have made signing a right-winger their top priority in the summer transfer window with the Dortmund man their preferred man.

And now Sancho has agreed on a deal in principle over a contract at Old Trafford.

That’s according to transfer expert Ian McGarry who has given an update on the 20-year-old making the move back to Manchester this summer.

He said on the Transfer Window podcast: “It is our understanding that Sancho has agreed in principle in the last two weeks a five-year contract with Manchester United which will pay him initially £140,000 per week but increasing to around £200,000 per week over the course of that deal.

“The player’s agent has recently been busy doing other deals, notably with Saka’s new deal with Arsenal but is still hopeful that United will be able to agree a fee with Borussia Dortmund.

“Manchester United have been rather robust in a briefing this week that they will not pay any more than £50m for Jadon Sancho which of course is at least less than half of Borussia Dortmund’s original valuation of the England international.”

Sancho previously left Manchester City for Dortmund back in the summer of 2017.

  • Man Utd news: Ed Woodward taking Jadon Sancho transfer gamble

The England man is known to be good friends with United superstar Marcus Rashford and wants a move to Old Trafford.

But the sticking point is likely to be the fee of over £100m the German side are demanding for Sancho, despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Reports came out of United saying they were only prepared to pay £50m, the same amount they parted with for Aaron Wan-Bissaka last summer.

Dortmund chief Michael Zorc has also given an update on Sancho possibly leaving the club.

“It would be naive to say that we are completely independent of how the situation will look,” Zorc told Dortmund daily newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten.

“If there were a transfer, it would also have a certain economic dimension.

“But we can very well imagine going into the next year with Jadon because he simply delivers sporting added value.

“We’ll see everything else in the next few weeks.”

United return to action on Saturday in the Premier League when they take on Bournemouth (3pm).

A win will take the Red Devils above Chelsea into fourth before the Blues take on Watford at 8pm.
