Manchester United decided signing Erling Haaland was not a priority because of the impressive form of young striker Mason Greenwood, according to reports.
Borussia Dortmund beat both United and other potential suitors Juventus in the race for Haaland’s signature, confirming the 19-year-old had signed a four-and-a-half year deal with them on Sunday.
He had become hot property in European football after scoring 28 goals in 22 appearances for Red Bull Salzburg this season, including a hat-trick on his Champions League debut.
It was believed Ole Gunnar Solskjae r – who worked with Haaland at Molde – was desperate to bring his former player to Old Trafford in January.

But according to ESPN , one of United’s main reasons for cooling their interest in the Norwegian was Greenwood, who has produced some solid performances coming off the bench this term.
The 18-year-old has scored eight goals in 22 appearances – 20 of which saw him start as a substitute.
United still believe Haaland has the ability to become a world-class player, yet they are now said to be prioritising other areas of the team to invest in because of Greenwood’s promise.

ESPN also claim the Red Devils were put off a potential deal for Haaland when it became clear that future sale profits would have to be shared with his father, Alfe, and agent Mino Raiola.
They were not prepared to insert a release clause into the player’s contract, either, which was reportedly demanded by his representatives – with the figure mooted as low as £43m.

Haaland can’t wait to get started in Germany, insisting Dortmund was always his preferred destination.

Reports have long suggested they hold a serious interest in the Dortmund winger, who is said to be interested in speaking with them about a potential transfer.
They will have fierce competition for the 19-year-old, nevertheless, with Chelsea , Real Madrid , Barcelona and Paris St-Germain also circling.
It is believed Dortmund will demand over £100m for Sancho, who has bagged 12 goals in 24 appearances for the Bundesliga club this season.

“I can see him moving from the Bundesliga to either Chelsea or Manchester United in 2020.
“The fee will surpass the current record of £89m for Paul Pogba and I can't see Dortmund turning that down.”
