Manchester United star Edinson Cavani has hinted that he is close to returning to action, after missing the Red Devils’ 0-0 draw with Chelsea on Sunday with a muscle injury. Cavani has been absent for United’s last four games in all competitions and he was missed against Chelsea.

Cavani has impressed for United this season, netting seven goals and providing two assists, and he offers something different to the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

Against the Blues, his experience and physical presence was missed as United failed to find the back of the net.

However, Cavani took to Instagram after the game to offer fans hope that he would be back soon.

The 34-year-old posted an image of himself in action with the caption “Con muchas ganas de volver pronto”, which translates to “Eager to return soon”.

United have a run of important games coming up which they will be hopeful Cavani can feature in.

These include Premier League clashes with league leaders Manchester City and fourth placed West Ham, as well as both legs of their Europa League last 16 tie against AC Milan.

Speaking after United’s draw against Chelsea, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “We’re not scoring enough goals, that’s for sure.

“We came away and it’s another good clean sheet but the next step for this team is to win these games and score a goal.

“We needed to get three points and, of course, we should have had a penalty, which probably I would back Bruno [Fernandes] every day of the week.

“We didn’t have the right weight of pass, good quality at the end in the four or five good breakaways we had in the second half.

“We’ve got Crystal Palace on Wednesday, so we look forward to that one.

“I’m pleased with everyone’s energy, attitude, as I’ve said. We just need a bit of quality.

“I said before the game, in these so-called big games, we’ve kept some great clean sheets, great defending, energy, attitude.

“The lads have done absolutely everything right defensively. Attacking-wise we need that little bit of quality but that will come. This team is getting better.”

Luke Shaw also told MUTV: “I think neither sides’ defence will have been too under pressure today. I don’t think either side created too much danger. We needed to win today because the gap [at the top] is getting bigger.

“We needed to build on that momentum with [Manchester] City next weekend and [Crystal] Palace in midweek. I think we missed out on two points that we desperately need.”
