Manchester United players have been left ‘startled’ by the level of some of Erik ten Hag’s signings, according to reports. Rasmus Hojlund is one of four acquisitions that have come under scrutiny among the squad.
United spent around £190million on new signings in the summer. Their biggest outlay was on Hojlund, who will cost a fee of up to £72m.
The Dane had just one season in Serie A with Atalanta, scoring nine goals in 32 appearances. He is yet to score a goal in his 10 Premier League outings but has managed five goals in the Champions League group stage.
Hojlund has shown some promise in a United side that has already lost 10 games in all competitions. But it appears his arrival has not gone down too well among the squad.
The Manchester Evening News says some players have been left ‘perplexed’ by the quality of Ten Hag’s signings. One player is particularly confused at the addition of Hojlund.

Three other Ten Hag signings have also raised doubts. They are winger Antony, loan striker Wout Weghorst and England midfielder Mason Mount.
Antony followed Ten Hag to United from Ajax in the summer of 2022. The Red Devils have committed to paying up to £85m for the Brazil international.
However, he has had a spell to forget so far. In 58 appearances, Antony has scored just eight goals and registered three assists.
Weghorst was a January signing last season when United were in need of a frontman following mid-season the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. The experienced Netherlands international scored just twice in 31 appearances and didn’t find the net in his 17 league outings.

Mount was United’s first signing of this year’s summer window, joining in a deal worth up to £60m. He had failed to agree upon a new contract at Chelsea after missing much of the second half of last season through injury.
But he has been unable to make any impact at United so far. He has no goals and just one assist in 12 appearances, with injury again restricting his minutes on the pitch.
The same report claims some staff members and a growing list of players have doubts over Ten Hag’s methods. United are seventh in the Premier League and on the cusp of exiting the Champions League at the group stage.
They face three home games in a row, starting with the visit of Chelsea on Wednesday. Bournemouth make the trip to Old Trafford on Saturday before the must-win clash against Bayern Munich next Tuesday.
