Manchester United will reportedly give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer £250m to rebuild his squad but the Norwegian’s first signing could be Dries Mertens on a free.
The Napoli forward’s contract talks have stalled and, according to a report from TuttoMercatoWeb , United are among the clubs interested in the Belgian.
Mertens’ current deal expires at the end of the season, meaning he could sign a pre-agreement with a foreign club in January.
The Red Devils are in desperate need of attacking recruits after letting both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez join Inter Milan without signing a replacement and getting Mertens for free would be excellent business.
