Manchester United's hopes of qualifying to the knockout stages of the Champions League took a huge dent with defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

The visitors took the lead through Neymar early on. The Brazilian reacted quickly to a loose ball to slot past David De Gea into the United net.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 's side, though, got themselves back into the tie.

Marcus Rashford's shot deflected past Keylor Navas and handed United a crucial equaliser.

But a mad two minutes cost United. Marquinhos stabbed the ball home to hand PSG the lead. Moments later Fred received a second yellow, after escaping red in the first half, and was given his marching orders.

Neymar wrapped up the win in the dying minutes.

United have it all to do against RB Leipzig.

Manchester United player ratings

David De Gea – 6

Couldn't react quick enough to Neymar's shot but made a couple of other decent stops to deny PSG. Great save to deny Bakker but couldn't deny Marquinhos. Helpless against Neymar.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6

Busy night up against Kylian Mbappe but did well for the most part. Only thing missing were his trademark slide tackles.

Harry Maguire – 6

Mopped up well behind the full-backs. Hard to blame defeat on the United captain with all the goals not really his fault.

Victor Lindelof – 5

Aggressive in the tackle but was quiet throughout. Couldn't stop the threat of Mbappe and Neymar.

Alex Telles – 6

Solid from the summer signing but was unable to produce any match-winning crosses.

  • Man Utd suffer two referee shockers in 1 minute with PSG 'offside' goal and Fred red

Fred – 3

Very, very lucky to not be sent off in the first half for an apparent headbutt on Leandro Paredes. Didn't learn his lesson and received a second yellow later on.

Scott McTominay – 6

Worked hard. Surrounded by controversy after accidentally stepping on Neymar's ankle. Nothing in it, though.

Bruno Fernandes – 5

Some passes good, some not. Usually his sloppy play is overshadowed by a goal or an assist. Not on this occasion.

  • Gary Neville wary over Dean Henderson as he looks at Man Utd’s next 10 years

Anthony Martial – 5

Struggled to penetrate PSG's defence in the wide position. His best chance was blocked but could he have perhaps feigned his shot to take the keeper and defender out of the game? Put an even easier shot over.

Edinson Cavani – 5

Unlucky with a brilliant chipped attempt. Often a thorn in PSG's side

Marcus Rashford – 6

His shot led to the goal but it was a lucky deflection. Unfortunately a shoulder problem cut his night short.

Paul Pogba – 6

Donny van de Beek – 6

Mason Greenwood – 6

Odion Ighalo – 5
