Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba bore the brunt of supporters’ frustration after the side’s 6-1 defeat to Spurs after the Frenchman was caught smiling during the humiliation.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were battered by Spurs on Jose Mourinho’s return to Old Trafford, which the Norwegian described as his worst day in management.
Anthony Martial’s sending off with the scoreline at 2-1 made United’s day that bit more difficult but the hosts were already well below-par and Spurs were knocking on the door to extend their lead.
The visitors added two more before half-time to effectively seal the victory and it was a case of damage limitations after the break with United trailing 4-1.
Solskjaer brought on Fred and Scott McTominay to inject some energy into United’s midfield but Spurs extended their lead when Serge Aurier rifled home.
Spurs looked content with their four-goal advantage but they were gifted a sixth when Pogba stupidly fouled Ben Davies for Kane to fire home.
Pogba was arguably United’s worst performer and the former Juventus ace did himself no good as he was seen smirking after giving the penalty away.
The Frenchman may well have been sarcastically grinning at how United’s afternoon could scarcely have somehow got even worse but it was a bad look given the gravity of the situation and fans were unhappy.
