Manchester United could be set to bolster their defence once again this summer having been linked to a couple of right-backs. According to Sky Sports, the Red Devils are admirers of both Kieran Trippier and Max Aarons and could potentially make a move for either.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer apparently wants a more attacking option in the position to compete with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with the aforementioned duo thought to be high on his transfer list.

Trippier is of course well known in the Premier League having forged his name with Burnley before a move to Tottenham.

He went on to make 114 appearances for the north London outfit before departing for Atletico Madrid in 2019, where he has become a key player under Diego Simeone.

A move for the now 30-year-old Trippier would also see the right-back return to Manchester having progressed through Manchester City’s academy earlier in his career.

Despite that, the player himself has admitted that he could only envisage a return to Burnley should he come back to England.

He said: “It’ll happen one day for sure, I’ll 100 per cent be back playing for them [Burnley].

“I would love to retire there. That’s my aim, to retire at Burnley. I want to play as high as I can for as long as I can but I’ll know when the time is right.

“If I’m at Atleti for another two years, that’ll take me to 32, and Burnley’s the only club that I’d come back to England for.”

Meanwhile, whilst Trippier has plenty of experience of Premier League football, the same cannot quite be said of Aarons.

At the age of 21, he only has one season of top-flight experience under his belt having been part of the Norwich City side that was relegated from the Premier League last season.

Aarons impressed though and was linked with a move to Liverpool only for the Reds to scoff at the Canaries’ asking price at the time.

He has continued his eye-catching form for Norwich throughout the 2020/21 season having scored two goals and notched five assists on the way to an instant promotion from the Championship.

It is easy to see why then United are so keen to bring in a more creative right-back.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has continued to excel defensively at Old Trafford – regularly topping the Premier League’s tackle charts.

However, he does not have the same influence going forwards.

In 97 appearances for United, he boasts just nine assists.

This is a stark difference to Trippier who himself has set up 11 goals in Atletico Madrid colours – albeit in 32 fewer appearances in all competitions.
