Manchester United players are reportedly getting excited at the prospect of receiving improved contracts if the club are taken over by Qatari Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamid Al Thani. The Red Devils were put up for sale by the Glazer family last November, with Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe among those bidding to buy the club.

United have enjoyed a precipitous upturn in fortunes under Erik ten Hag this season and have climbed to third in the Premier League table after winning 15 of their 24 matches. The 13-time Premier League champions lifted their first trophy of the Ten Hag era after beating Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final last Sunday and have also reached the last 16 of the Europa League and the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

United players already receive some of the best wages in English football. But, according to the Independent, they feel it could be better for them financially if Qatar are successful in their approach for the club. And a few Red Devils players are currently reluctant to move on new contracts because they want to wait and see what happens with the ownership.

Sheikh Jassim is expected to meet with United officials in the coming weeks after putting forward an offer in the region of £4.5billion.

And following his bid, a statement released on behalf of the Qatari read: “The bid plans to return the club to its former glories both on and off the pitch, and – above all – will seek to place the fans at the heart of Manchester United Football Club once more.

“The bid will be completely debt free via Sheikh Jassim’s Nine Two Foundation, which will look to invest in the football teams, the training centre, the stadium and wider infrastructure, the fan experience and the communities the club supports. The vision of the bid is for Manchester United Football Club to be renowned for footballing excellence, and regarded as the greatest football club in the world.”

The Red Devils will be keen to tie down a whole host of stars, with some players enjoying their best ever form in a United shirt this season. Goalkeeper David de Gea’s current deal only runs until this summer, while 10 players including the likes of Marcus Rashford, Fred, Luke Shaw, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony Martial are all out of contract next summer.

And if the mega-rich Sheikh Jassim does manage to buy the club, he could put his hands deep into his pockets to rewards players with bigger contracts than any Premier League player has ever seen in the past.
