Manchester United value Jesse Lingard at £20million, according to reports. The West Ham star has been in sensational form over at the London Stadium, scoring nine goals from 13 Premier League matches. But he could be on his way to Borussia Dortmund as part of a swap deal for Jadon Sancho.

At the start of 2021, Lingard was struggling.

He failed to play a single minute in the Premier League for United, instead being forced to rely on the odd opportunity in the Carabao Cup.

However, since being allowed to join West Ham on loan, the 28-year-old has been playing football with a huge smile on his face.

Lingard has taken to life at the London Stadium like a duck to water, managing a remarkable 12 goal involvements in the top flight so far.

West Ham would love to sign him permanently as a result but, at the current time of writing, his weekly salary of £100,000-a-week is complicating matters.

United have indicated they’d have Lingard back at Old Trafford in a heartbeat, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer failing to shut the door on a potential return.

But The Sun say they value the England international at £20m ahead of the summer window if they’re forced to cash in.

It’s also claimed he may be used as bait to secure the arrival of Sancho, who is back to being their No 1 target for the summer window.

Dortmund are said to be ‘keeping tabs’ on Lingard, having seen English talents such as Sancho and Jude Bellingham thrive at the Westfalenstadion in recent years.

And what ultimately happens remains to be seen.

Lingard has also been linked with a move to Roma following the announcement Jose Mourinho would be in charge at the Stadio Olympico next term.

And, if that materialises, he’d become the latest United player to head to Serie A.

It’s become something of a dumping ground for the Red Devils in recent years, with Chris Smalling, Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Ashley Young and Matteo Darmian heading there.

And Lingard, if he carries on setting the Premier League alight, is likely to be a wanted man.

West Ham boss David Moyes was negative when recently quizzed over Lingard, admitting it ‘may be not realistic’ to sign the playmaker on a permanent basis.

“It is fully deserved, his performances have been really good,” he said after Lingard won the Premier League’s Player of the Month award.

“He has excelled and probably done better than we hoped when we first brought him in.

“But you must not forget Jesse has joined a good team and a team that was playing well and near the top of the league. So hopefully we have helped Jesse as well.

“I am not actually sure how realistic it is.

“Obviously, I think Jesse has enjoyed himself, I hope he has… we have enjoyed having him and he is Manchester United’s player so they can decide what to do with him – and if they want to let him go then let’s hope he would consider us as one of his options.”

Regarding Sancho, Rio Ferdinand thinks United have to snap him up.

“For the third season on the spin he’s got 30+ goal involvements,” he said.

“This is for a 21-year-old kid! I don’t care where he’s playing, he’s in the Bundesliga, it’s ridiculous for anyone to be saying he shouldn’t be in the England squad.

“The kid is the real deal.

“And someone like Man United or whoever, one of the top teams, has to go out and get this boy because he brings the playground to the stadiums.”
