Mason Greenwood is starting to ‘catch on’ to the jokes of his Spanish and Argentine team-mates as he settles into life at Getafe, it has been claimed. Greenwood is likely to have his half-season loan with the La Liga outfit extended for the remainder of the campaign.
Manchester United concluded that the forward should continue his career away from Old Trafford ahead of the 2023-24 season. It came after a six-month internal investigation after the Crown Prosecution Service dropped charges of attempted rape, coercive behaviour, and assault against Greenwood, who denied the charges.
Getafe snapped up the 22-year-old on a six-month loan, with Greenwood beginning to excel in Spain. According to reports, those close to the player’s situation have noticed that he is settling in well.
Some of his new team-mates reportedly consider the United academy graduate to be shy and introverted. However, it is claimed that he is starting to understand the jokes of his Spanish and Argentine colleagues.
According to The Athletic, Getafe want Greenwood to undertake Spanish lessons to accelerate his understanding of the language and culture. A teacher has been recruited to help him learn Spanish outside of his training and playing responsibilities.
Greenwood has shown glimpses of the incredible talent that made him one of England’s biggest prospects as a teenager. He struck a fantastic effort to score from the corner of the penalty area in Getafe’s 2-1 win over Almeria on Saturday.
The one-cap England international has scored four goals and provided a further three assists in just 720 minutes of action for his loan club. His game time has been carefully managed in the opening months of the season due to the fact he had not played competitive football in 18 months before his Getafe debut on September 17.
