Mason Mount ‘to snub Liverpool for Man Utd transfer’ as Chelsea star nears exit

Mason Mount is reportedly set to snub Liverpool in favour of a move to Manchester United.

The Chelsea midfielder’s future remains unclear as the Premier League season comes to a halt. Mount has just one year left on his current contract with the club, which has seen him linked with a whole host of rival teams in recent months.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal are understood to be interested in the England international – but Mount is said to be "leaning towards" joining the Red Devils.

The Athletic report a number of hurdles must still be cleared if the 24-year-old is to become an Old Trafford star. That includes an actual financial agreement between the two clubs, as well as United’s lengthy saga over their potential new ownership being concluded.

It will come as a huge blow to Liverpool, who were reported by The Athletic to be favourites to sign the Englishman in March, as Jurgen Klopp looks to revitalise his midfield.

Mount has also been linked with Premier League high-flyers Arsenal as Mikel Arteta tries to bring in a long-term replacement for Granit Xhaka in the left-sided midfield role.

Yet incoming Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino is understood to be a fan of Mount and may look to keep the player. That could provide another potential spanner in the works for the likes of United, who have prioritised a striker this summer.

Mount came through the Chelsea academy to make 195 appearances for the Blues. He has scored 33 goals and lifted the Champions League since making his debut in 2017.

The midfielder's progress has hit a snag this season, having suffered injuries and played under three different managers. That has reflected in him registering just three goals and six assists across all competitions.
