Matteo Guendouzi sends message to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta after joining Hertha Berlin

Matteo Guendouzi sent Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta a message after completing a transfer deadline day loan move to Hertha Berlin. Guendouzi will spend the season at the Bundesliga club after being frozen out since the Gunners’ Premier League defeat to Brighton in June.

Arsenal were hoping to offload the midfielder permanently during the transfer window in order to help finance moves for Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar.

They failed to do that, with potential moves to Marseille, Villarreal and Roma for the 21-year-old all falling through.

But the Gunners’ wage bill has at least been eased, with Guendouzi’s loan move to Hertha having been confirmed on Monday.

And the failure to sell the French international doesn’t appear to have prevented Arsenal from pursuing Partey, with the club having reportedly triggered the Atletico Madrid midfielder’s £45m release clause.

Guendouzi has not played for Arteta’s side all season, having been frozen out by the manager since he clashed with Neal Maupay during a 2-1 defeat to Brighton following football’s restart in June.

He will wear the number eight shirt at Hertha, and after joining the Bundesliga club he declared his intention to take his career to the next level in Berlin.

“The discussions with those responsible convinced me [to join],” said Guendouzi.

“I don’t just want to develop personally, but help the whole association to take the next step. I’m buzzing to start life in Berlin as a Hertha player.”

Then, in a pointed message to Arteta, he took to social media to say he couldn’t wait to be back on a football pitch again.

He posted on Twitter: “Excited to be back on the pitch and defend the colors of Hertha BSC! Let’s go!”

Guendouzi will hope to make his Hertha debut against Stuttgart in their next Bundesliga clash on October 17.

Hertha are currently 13th in the German top flight, having suffered a 4-3 loss to Bayern Munich on Sunday, with Robert Lewandowski scoring all four for the European champions.

Arsenal’s failure to sell Guendouzi earlier in the transfer window meant they missed Lyon’s Friday deadline to come up with an acceptable offer to sign £54m-rated attacking midfielder Aouar.

However, Partey is believed to be on his way to Arsenal after the Gunners informed La Liga they would be triggering the Ghana international’s release clause.

Atletico refused to negotiate with the Gunners as they did not want to lose their key midfielder.

But the Spanish side are powerless to stop Arteta’s side from completing a deal because of his exit clause.

Partey faces a race against time to sign the registration forms before Monday night’s 11pm deadline.
